Title: Executive Business Development Director

Organization: Improving Renal Outcomes Collaborative, Inc.

Location: Remote with occasional domestic travel

Reporting Relationship: Improving Renal Outcomes Collaborative, Inc. Board of Directors

Key Organizational Relationships: IROC Principal Investigator; IROC Contractors, Pediatric Hospital Members of the IROC Network

Key External Relationships: pharmaceutical, medical technology, and services companies, nonprofit organizations with missions complementary to IROC

Exemption Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000

Position Summary

The Executive Business Development Director ensures financial sustainability and development of The Improving Renal Outcomes Collaborative (IROC) Inc., in support of IROC’s mission to partner with all stakeholders to improve health, longevity, and quality of life for children and young adults with a kidney transplant. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and partners with the Principal Investigator and other clinical, scientific, and patient/caregiver leaders to grow the community of active IROC sites, forge relationships with industry partners, philanthropists, and payers, and develop funding streams to ensure network financial sustainability and growth.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree preferred

  • Administrative experience in a health care-related discipline, including experience as a leader or manager. ~10 years is required.

  • Experience fundraising, including forging and maintaining donor/partner relationships, executing revenue-generating campaigns, diversifying revenue streams, and communicating value. ~5 years is preferred.

Knowledge of the Healthcare Industry and Quality Improvement

  • Knowledge of how health systems operate

  • Familiarity with quality improvement science in healthcare and adaptive leadership - operating in short cycles of decision, action, and learning

  • Familiarity with research within the context of complex health systems

Knowledge of Grant Writing and Data Management

  • Knowledge of grant writing

  • Knowledge of how to use information systems to improve patient and health system outcomes and conduct research

  • Familiarity with data management and principles of trustworthy data sharing, ethics, and security

Responsibilities

Business Development and Financial Management – 60%

  • Developing a strategic, diverse, and ambitious funding plan for ongoing operations, innovation, and research

  • Leading business development activities, including attracting and securing financial support from foundations, payors, and industry (pharmaceutical, device, and technology companies) sponsors

  • Seeking out partnerships and relationships that keep IROC on the leading edge of innovation

  • Has the didactic and experiential training to work with payers, pharma, clinical research organizations, and other channel partners

  • Identifying and securing grant funding and ongoing philanthropic contributions

  • Maintaining financial oversight of IROC

  • Manage relationships with IROC bookkeeping, accounting, and legal services

Executive Leadership – 30%

  • Leading the evolving strategic direction of the network, developing stakeholder alignment around mission, vision, and culture

  • Executing the Network’s annual strategic and operational plans together with the Principal Investigator, Board of Directors, and Senior Management team

  • Oversee Board of Directors meetings

  • Developing and facilitating network governance to promote transparent oversight of network assets

  • Developing key strategic relationships, including working with the IROC Principal Investigator to develop and maintain relationships with institutional and other leaders at care centers, developing relationships with service providers, collaborating with other learning networks

  • Recruiting and developing network leaders, including health professionals, patients, families, and researchers

Operational Leadership – 10%

  • Provide expert executive leadership to advance the operational infrastructure of the IROC Network to support quality improvement practice and research in a Learning Health System.

  • Provide oversight of all subcontracts, including staffing and technology

  • Encouraging the development and continuous improvement of network processes

  • Participating in the development and planning of network learning activities, including annual Learning Session conferences and other learning events
